Pawn’d Chess guide

What is Maia AI?

Pawn’d Chess uses human-like Maia AI so you can practice against an opponent selected for where you are now—not just the strongest opponent available.

A chess opponent you can choose

In Pawn’d Chess, Maia AI opponents are selectable from 600 to 2600 Elo. Pick a level that gives you a real game, then adjust it as you learn. The aim is a challenge that feels tough but fair.

That makes Maia useful for more than a single kind of player: use a lower setting to build confidence, a closer match to test your current habits, or a stronger setting when you want a harder problem to solve.

Use games as practice

Pawn’d Chess is a chess trainer built around playing real chess. In Practice Mode, you can undo and redo moves freely: try an idea, rewind to the position, and explore a different plan. You can also create, load, copy, and share positions with FEN support, then save positions worth returning to.

Whether you are working through an opening, rebuilding confidence after a mistake, or testing a position from a friend, choose a Maia level that lets you spend your attention on the board.
