Pawn’d Chess accessibility
Chess should not demand one way to play.
Pawn’d Chess is designed around controller-first play on Steam Deck, with accessibility-focused options so more people can spend their attention on the board.
Controller-first and built for Steam Deck
Pawn’d Chess supports full controller play and Steam Input, including Xbox and PlayStation controller support. It is built and tested for handheld Steam Deck play; Valve will publish its customer-facing compatibility rating at launch.
That makes it easier to choose the setup that fits your space: a controller on the couch, a handheld session on Steam Deck, or the desk setup you already prefer.
Adaptable input and pacing
The Steam accessibility feature panel for Pawn’d Chess lists keyboard-only, mouse-only, and touch-only play options. It also lists play without quick-time events, adjustable difficulty, save-anytime support, and play at your own pace.
Chess is already a game of thought. Practice Mode keeps that focus by letting you undo and redo moves freely while you test a plan.
Options that help players stay oriented
The Steam listing also identifies a resizable interface, color alternatives, contrast controls, narrated game menus, and playable-without-vision support. Those options are intended to make it easier for different players to navigate the game and focus on the position.
Accessibility needs are personal. Check the current feature panel on Steam and contact us if you need help deciding whether Pawn’d Chess fits your setup.
Steam Deck compatibility at launch
Steam Deck Verified is Valve’s customer-facing compatibility rating. It is separate from a game merely running on Steam Deck: Valve publishes the rating after its compatibility review of the current build.
Pawn’d Chess has completed the Steam Deck compatibility checklist and is built and tested for handheld play. We will update this page with Valve’s official published status at launch. For Valve’s definition of compatibility ratings, see the Steamworks compatibility review documentation.
